Program: Carol Perschke, McHenry Township Assessor-  Carol was very informative as she explained her elected position is to make sure Real Estate Assessment’s are correct, and if not how to appeal. She explained Tax Cap Laws and noted that the actual tax is set by the State which adds and distributes the individual taxing bodies amounts, and how their budgets increase with the Consumer Price Index. This results in higher taxes, even though your value decreases.  There are over 26,000 parcels in the Township, this year’s appeals were over 960, which is up by 100. The appeal must be filed within 30 days of the published assessment and can be accomplished without an attorney for residential parcels.  Please do not hesitate to contact Carol if you have any questions or concerns.
